Place to Purchase a new Rifle
« on: September 05, 2008, 10:39:28 AM »
I'm looking for a place to purchase another rifle, preferably w/ a synthetic stock and .300 caliber or larger.  Can anybody make a recommendation for where I should start looking?

Just check your local shops and tell them what you are wanting to spend and they should help you. And if I see one I will let you know as well.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I hit a couple of pawn shops and looked at what they had.  Then, I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and ended up buying a new Remington 770, 300 WIN MAG, synthetic stock topped with a Bushnell 3-9x for $337 with a $50 mail in rebate.  They even had $5 rebates for boxes of Remington ammo.  I added a $19 sling to complete it.

After tax, the price tag for gun w/ scope, sling, and a box of ammo was $413.  After I get the $55 back in mail in rebates, this will have set me back a grand total of $358, about half of what I expected I would end up paying.

Good deal. I was just going to suggest going to Wally world because they have the least amount of markup on there firearms anywhere.

The Wallyworlds around us stopped selling guns last year...some new directive about being too close to a major city.  I have had great luck purchasing guns through a local pawn shop and if he knows what I'm looking for, will call me if something comes in.  Two years ago I purchased used Savage .270 with synthetic stock etc plus a Nikon scope, sling and case for $270.00 .  It's not real pretty but great for taking out in the woods.   The first shot I took at a target 100 yards away was almost dead on and have not missed a deer with it.  I ahve also purchased a turkey gun and a Marlin 22 through the guy.  Have been pleased with everything.

WI wallys went to only 10 shops selling guns.  But I bought 2 savages from them.  I love the savage for price and durabilty.  Wont win any beauty contest but thats not why I bought them.
