My worst day in the woods this spring...
« on: April 29, 2010, 10:38:39 AM »
It was my worst day in the woods this spring, and it was still a GREAT MORNING! It started off by me busting an old hen off of her roost as I tried to ease my way through a swamp to get to a bird I hunted the end of last week the same day I wound up shooting my second bird of the season.  That's ok though.  I jumped a tiny fawn about another 100 yards through the woods and thought to myself, "I must sound like a herd of elephants going through the woods."  Today was the first day all season I haven't heard a bird gobble which is impressive since I only have public lands to hunt and they've usually gone silent by the second week of the season.  I had two different deer wind me and blow me off, but I found where I'll be hunting opening week of deer season!!!  Tracks, old rubs, and tons of sign were EVERYWHERE in the swamp I hunted today.  I have my tree noted (in my head) and everything!  Turns out a bad day turkey hunting may have just made my deer season one to remember.  Now just one more day left to bag a gobbler before I go getting primed for August 15th!

Sounds like a great day. I have not heard a bird gobble here for 3 days. Not sure what is going on.

You need to get off the recliner to hear the turkey  ##$%#114 Just kidding my friend. Remember you can hunt on this side of the state line on Saturday.  ##$%#117 I'll be heading north in about an hour and a half.

I only heard one gobble and I ended up tagging him.  Hold out,  as my dad tells me, "It only takes one."

Where exactly did you see all that deer sign again?   ##$%#114

Sounds like a Great Scouting Day. Make the Best out of anytime you spend in the woods. Good Luck on your next turkey hunt.
