Got my 2010 ten-point mount back
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:08:42 AM »
Killed this buck on Jan.23, 2010.  Got him back yesterday.  He scored 144 3/8.  This was the second of two ten pointers I killed from the same stand.  After getting in the woods before daylight and climbing to about 25 ft., I settled in to a cold wait.  It was about 25 degrees that morning and not warming up much as the morning went on.  I spotted two does crossing a ridge out about 150 yards at around 7am so I felt good about my chances of seeing more deer.  I started using my bleet can and my grunt about every 30 minutes or so and about 8am a single doe started toward me from a deep hollow to the west.  I watched her as she approached to within 30 or forty yards of my stand and then got behind me and kinda down wind.  I guess a swirl of wind gave me away and she blew and bolted outta there.  I had been hoping she was followed by a buck so my heart sank when she busted me.  There was no action for the next hour and I was getting a little frustrated and thinking of the warm fireplace back at the house.  I was telling myself, Hey you already got one decent deer, you don't have to sit out here in this.  I am constantly arguing with myself on stand and told myself that I would stay a little longer although my toes were freezing!  I decided to eat an apple I had brought along and turned to my right and unzipped my pack that I had hung from a limb, removed the apple and peeled the little inspector sticker off and was about to take a bite when movemnt to my left caught my eye.  This buck had magicaly appeared at 40 or 50 yards to my left and was just milling along nose down with not a worry in the world.  I had my rifle across my lap and with one motion dropped my apple in my pocket and picked up the rifle.  I waited for an opening and bleeted at him with my mouth. When he stopped, I dropped the hammer.  He went about 50 yards or so and I watched him fall. Man what a feeling.  These are pics of him on the ground that day and the mount I got back yesterday.
