how to shoot a skunk
« on: July 11, 2008, 02:01:16 PM »
 ???
so my lab pup just got sprayed by a skunk this morning around 11:30.  Is there any way to shoot a skunk without having them spray?  I want cold blooded revenge.

Any secret tips for removing the smell?

head shot  quick kill is about the only way. You will  get a small amount of  smell but not  near as bad as if you mess up and wound one  or a slow kill

As long as it is an instant kill and the skunk doesn't know it's coming, You should have time to dispose of the body.  :-\

As a trapper this challenge is alway present to those that use box type capture traps.  YOU NEVER SHOOT A SKUNK IN THE HEAD. THERE WILL NOT BE A SPRAY BUT A STREAM AS THIS IS ALL CONTROLLED BY THE NERVIOUS SYSTEM.  The best way to kill a skunk is to shoot it thru the vitals as in deer hunting using a .22.  They normally don't understand what has happened and will pass quickly like a deer without spraying.
If you must be somewhere.  Be Out There in the woods.

Me thinks this thread stinks ;D .  I've always had them leave a little scent when shooting them. Since you're surrounded by it at the moment use the blow gun.
Don't infringe on the 2nd amendment. It's time to get political if you haven't already. Joint the NRA, a gun club, teach a kid to hunt..your future and their depends on it.

you have to be brave to kill a skunk.  i once had one try to climb the tree i was deer hunting in, i yelled at it and waved my arms but that did not fase it, i finally peed on it as it was climbing up the tree and in turned around. if that failed i was going to jump

i shot a skunk a few years ago after it sprayed my 3 year old duck dog in the face.  I shot it in the head with a 338.  Its tail racheted up slowly and it sprayed.  Head shots are no good according to that situation.
Apparantly i have a lot of skunks around my house!!
Seems to be a reoccuring animal
