Hopefully last Moutrie D-40 question
« on: September 08, 2008, 12:21:01 PM »
Just checked my cam after Hanna went through.  It's in great shape but what I do have are several all black videos.  My understanding is that the camera is only supposed to do videos during the day and stills at night.  What mine is doing is doing both at night.  I'l have a nice still photo followed by an all black video.  Happened on several night time occassions.  I also notice that during the day, the camera first takes a still and is followed by a video.   Can't find anything on the camera or in the directions as to why this is happening.  Anyone have any ideas?  Other than having set my image quality to high is the only change I made when re-setting the camera location.  I really like all the stills...all doe this time...and the video that does come out.

i had this happen - check the time and see if it is around sunup or sundown - - mine was doing it around both - there was enough light with the flash to take the pic - but not enough light for the video mode -

either way - that is what's happening the camera is triggering at night time and there is not enough light for the movie mode

I get them every once an a while , that always leaves one wondering what tripped the camera   Check the time stamp and see if it was taken after dark , some times the auto flash does not trip . :'( ;D

I'll be putting mine out in the next couple days. Got a 1G card for it finally. Setting it on the highest quality video and still modes. Can't wait to see what's been going on since I had it out last.....  0-0-0-

ghost still mode will not matter when you have it set on video mode - the stills will only be a 320X240 preview pic right before it takes the video - this is to tell you time and date the video to follow was taken

Thanks for the input. Wondered about everyone saying it was taking a still prior to each video, but no one giving a reason why. Makes sense to me.....  :D

Put mine out yesterday afternoon in the video mode. Will probably check it in a week and see what we got at that location. I had deer and hog tracks by the creek where I put it.......
