Not to knock the Abu cardinal series.....but they are not in the class of most the others you have listed. If the money is not an issue you simply cannot go wrong with the Shimano line. I would personally like to have one that came with an extra spool that you can have a different line weight on for other types of fishing or techniques.

I like my Abu Garcia Black Max.  Good reel for $50.

Pfleuger without any hesitation. I have caught salt water fish of all sizes and fresh water from little bluegill to huge northern pike. Not a single complaint from me....

Here is my 39.5 in trophy

You may want to look into the Shimano 4000 spinning reel.  It's a medium-heavy reel that'll take bass, trout, stipers, etc. so, shouldn't be any problem with a kitty!
Retired after 34 yrs. on Jacksonville (Fl.) Police Dept.  19 yrs. in patrol and last 15 yrs. in C.S.I.
Now I can hunt and go bass fishing anytime I want!  Started deer hunting in 2007 but, had many years as a teen hunting rabbits and squirrels.

Thanks for the advice so far.
I'm adding a few more to the list :

Quantum Escalade
Okuma Stratus STX
Daiwa Takara
It appears that these reels are made specifically for dicks
