My favorite rifle was my Marlin MR7 in .270...until the wife bought me a Tikka T3 lite in 300WSM.  That is one sweet shootin gun.  Almost too much for Michigan deer hunting. (I did say "almost").

My first rifle I ever purchased was in 270.  Hunted with that for years and had great success.  Then one season while dragging my buck out I lost the bolt to it.  That was depressing.  I ended up purchasing a 7mm mag and that's been my go to rifle ever since.  I'm very happy with the groups it holds and have taken deer, bear and elk.  I eventually replaced the bolt in that S&W 270 but I've kind of retired it for now.

I use two 30-06's, 7mm Remington Mag. and a .300 RUM.  Three are model 700's and one is a Winchester model 70.  The 30-06's are zeroed for 200 yards and both of the magnums are zeroed for 250 yards. The .300 RUM is really to much gun for hunting southern whitetails, but I love all of that power and the smell of all that burnt gun powder. All of these cartridges and rifles are great for long range hunting and shooting.

the 270 case is the largest capacity case for standard calibers, thats why it performs so well.my loas is 59 grs of h4831,in three rifles, and one shoots 56 grs of imr4831.though I ne;ieve today the 270 wsm has about 10 percent more capacity.

Favorite caliber has to be my .270.  I just bought a .243 that I will use for coyotes and maybe deer if the .270 would ever break for some reason.  This year I used my friends 7mm mag and thought it was ok.  only problem I had was the scope ended up being loose so I had to switch back to my .270.
