I don't know what happened? The last time I put a picture in it worked, but the size pics I have now are way above 500KB's. Can you reduce them in your computer?
Give this a try: http://www.naturpic.com/download.htm Download the free  High Quality Photo Resizer It works very well and easy to use. I have to use this alot because of the camera I use.

gutshot has a good one...make it 70x70 and the pic will work also instead of jpeg make it a png...the resizer will have that...its free

This Avatar thing is simply not playing fairly now.    I have resized down to as small as 8kb and it will not load.   I have renamed it to a .gif,.png, and .bmp and it still tells me my file is to large or not an avatar.   I think the gremlins have locked me down and refuse to allow me to change it now.  Im stuck with my mug out there it seems.
Tryning to change mine and I get the same thing. Can someone my puter smart than me help out?

If you have microsoft office, you should have microsoft image viewer.  Open the picture and chose the edit picture option.  One of the choices is "resize picture".  of the choices, chose Web site.  it will automatically resize the picture to the appropriate file size.

the avatar needs to be smaller....try that naturpic.com and make it a png file and reduce it to 70x70 and it'll work

the regular pics I just edit them by right clicking pick edit them go to image then to resize/skew and make it 40 percent or anythin g that will get it to below 400 kbs....400 or above wont let you do it below 400...and if u notice my pics their not bad you can stll click on them to enlarge
