Wanted to change avatars but now I have only a red X and it won't upload my picture. In the lower left of the screen it says it is downloading but it never does. What do I need to do?

Make sure the file is not too large, 500 kb works the best.

I don't know what happened? The last time I put a picture in it worked, but the size pics I have now are way above 500KB's. Can you reduce them in your computer?

Check to see if you have some type of software that will open the photo for editing, you very likely do as an option in viewing the photo. Resize is normally buried in the editing software.

Random Info:
Info on the profile picture it is an avatar...how I did it: using HP image zone ....I saved the picture to a .png file....set the crop to a square size contraint...and then resize the photo to custom size with a 75 x 75 preserve aspect ratio.....

These instructions DO NOT apply to posting pictures on the forums just for the profile which is an avatar......

Happy hunting and posting!!!!

This Avatar thing is simply not playing fairly now.    I have resized down to as small as 8kb and it will not load.   I have renamed it to a .gif,.png, and .bmp and it still tells me my file is to large or not an avatar.   I think the gremlins have locked me down and refuse to allow me to change it now.  Im stuck with my mug out there it seems.

I'm having this same problem today.  My old avatar was a link to a pic on photobucket.  So, I linked to a new pic on photobucket for my new avatar.  It's a small pic, well within the size limits.  But when I enter the link, then press Change Profile, it doesn't save the change.  It goes to "Profile Pic....no pic".

Any ideas?

Never mind....I figured it out.  I saw the other post that stated they had to be 100x100 or less, so I shrunk it.

Also remember if you are using photobucket, the picture you use has to stay on your photo bucket page or it will show a red x.
