The new State of Maine Record Turkey
« on: October 14, 2009, 07:05:11 PM »
Here's some pics of my first Eastern Turkey, and it happened to be the new State of Maine Record with a Bow and Arrow, my turkey scored in at 70.07 i am layed off, so i wanted to learn how to turkey hunt, so my friend Tyler took me and i have never had so much fun. the old record of 66.10 held for a few years so hopefully mine will, i shot this at 27 yards with a G5 Montec out of a Ross CR331. The day before i had taken my shotgun but it just didn't seem that fun as carring my bow, so the day before i got my bow dialed in to 50 yards and practised shooting jug with judo's (favorite pastime). I told Tyler that i was going to bring m bow and shoot something i just felt it. that morning it was pouring and tyler said great they will all be in the fields, so we headed to a great spot to stalk a bird we had one gobble down from the roost in the first field we stopped at and headed thru a small patch of woods to it and at daybreak they started hitting the field and tyler started calling, I had a great place behind the stone wall to shoot and ranging, afew toms landed out and the hens were coming closer i had takers out at 75 yards and told tyler anyting shootable with in fifty yards was mine the toms had just started to move closer when we were busted by a coyote, so we went along down the road and had a couple more set ups and nothing on the way home we spotted a tom at the end of a fielad and glassed it and decide to go after it, just then i looked up the road and saw the rancher out there so we pulled in his yard and asked if we go after it and he looked at tylers shotgun and told us of his jumpy horse and i told him i wanted to shoot it with my bow and he laughed and said good luck, we headed out acrossed his field and was slowly pushing jakes and hens ahead of us to get into place, we had a stone wall between us with some pasture sctub trees, we stopped and crawled thru some of the worst mud/hosre crap stuff i have ever seen but we got in place and i couldn't see the bird but tyler could and sent me to the wall, layed down along side of the wall i could here tyler start and in a minute i heard the tom gobble my heart was throbbing and tyler had the rangefinder and was doing both, Tyler was in a heated conversation with the tom trying to to convince the tom that he was reaady for lovin 5mins utes later 27 yards it was getting nervous and i pinwheeled it.

Congrats, nice bird.  Hopefully my turkey hunting will be, if not as successful. successful nonetheless. %^$^
Ethical hunting isn't just about perfect shot placement.  It's also the knowledge that you are an ethical hunter and a true sportsman.  Enjoy the hunt and the experience, whether you shoot something or not.   Live every day as if it's your last.

Great bird. How do you get that score on a turkey. How do they score them?
