Coyote or young timberwolf?
« on: September 22, 2009, 12:37:23 PM »
We don't have many brush wolves in our area but have lots of timbers and I'm wondering what you guys think of this wolf. Young timber or coyote? If it's a coyote I can take him given the chance but a Timber will land me some jail time. He's coming into our bear bait. Thanks!

Well It don't look like any coyote around my neck of the woods. But it is kind of small to be a wolf. Maybe a mix between the two  @--0--0117

ears, snout and legs say young wolf to me.  if he stays at 50# after feeding him bear bait, shoot him he's a runt.

Young wolf.  You are so lucky to have pictures of him.  We know some people with 2 wolves that are 7th generation born in captivity.  The wolves are beautiful and smart.  We have known them since they were pups and being raised by the owners' Weimeraner.   @--0--0130
Ethical hunting isn't just about perfect shot placement.  It's also the knowledge that you are an ethical hunter and a true sportsman.  Enjoy the hunt and the experience, whether you shoot something or not.   Live every day as if it's your last.
There's a reason it's called hunting, not shopping

Sure dosen't look like the coyotes we have here.
Let the small ones walk this year so they are the big ones next year.

Well I'm pretty sure you're all right on.
I was bowhunting last night about 300 yards north of that particular bear bait, and about 300 yards south of our swamp edge.
I hadn't seen a deer all night and couldn't figure it out because I was sitting over 2 acres of buck forage oats. About the time I was ready to get down the choir started howling on the edge of the swamp, very cool hearing them but they can sure ruin the deer hunting. It sounded like a pack of about 6-8 and I'm sure the one I got a picture of was one of the higher pitched sounding howl.
Thanks for your insights.
