Anyone got a Remington 760 in 30/06 caliber?????
« on: August 29, 2009, 07:37:43 PM »
I do and love it!!!!! I have had it since I was 21, (20yrs). I have had a few others during that time too but, my 760 has been the main meat gun. Other than my 50 cal. CVA Buckhorn muzzy rifle, my 760 is the only other rifle I have. I can't tell you how many deer I have killed with it. I have missed with this gun but it was not the gun, it was me that missed. As long as I don't rush my shot, I get my deer. And this gun is way more accurate than I can shoot it. It shoots Winchester 150 gr. Power point bullets and Remington 150 gr. Core-lokt bullets almost identically. So close that there is no use in adjusting the scope. Anyway, I love my Remington 760, 30/06!!!!!! Anybody else????? Good huntin, Scott Woody

I have the 7600, that I got in 1982. It's my main gun for deer hunting. It was a replacement for a 7600 that I had for 8 years that was stolen out of my truck on a hunting trip to Natchez, MS. I have taken may deer with the 7600 and have no need to change. I shoot the 180 gr. corelok.

I have the model 742 and have taken almost all of my deer and also my bear with this rifle!  Wouldn't trade it for anything!

I purchased my 30-06 7600 from a grandson of Larry Benoit in his Vermont store.  I believe it was one of Lanny's sons.  It was set up Vermont style with a Williams peep I used for one year before switching to a Leopold 1-4 scope.

Saved my bacon when I blew out my knee on slippery rocks and had to use it as a crutch to get the 1/2 mile back home.

With its hard plastic butt plate, it hit little 'ole me a little too sharply.  Couldn't bring myself to replace it with rubber as the wood is too beautiful in that area.  Managed recoil loads helped some and I got my first deer, a doe, with it.

Excellent handling gun.

I thought my 700 kicked a little too hard, too, as it had a metal butt plate.  I purchased a rubber recoil pad from Remington, and installed it myself.  Since there was a considerable difference in thickness, I cut about 1/2" off the stock, then installed the new recoil pad.  The length of pull is just a little longer than standard, but it fits me just fine, plus the new pad took the sting out of the recoil.  I don't mind shooting this rifle at all, even with some of my hotter loads, like a 130 gr Hornady spire point at 3100 fps.

I have one. Wife gave it to me for my birthday in 1974. Great gun, still in great condition. I've had to have the O ring changed twice in the action but still a great gun. I don't use it as much now, as I have a new Howa 30-06 bolt action.

Sims makes an excellent slip on recoil pad.  No damage to the gun and no modifications.  I keep one in my gun box incase one of the kids (or other adults) has any problems and needs the extra help.  It also is great for the youth guns when your little one is getting a little bit longer in the arms as it will increase the stock by another 1/2" or so well reducing the recoil.
