your going to have to ask yourself a few questions...

1) what will you use it for?
2) do you have a price range?

because all of those question will lead you in different direction ...

out of the box you can;t go wrong with the rock river but if you want to go custom and have the best you  can get any lower will work with a jewel trigger
and get white oaks armament or compass lake upper.

This topic came up at the local gun range today.  And the general concensus was that, while they are fun to own, the combination of the price of ammunition combined with the price of the firearm itself made it kind of the odd man out.  That being said, it's your gun, your money, your purpose.  Take everyones $.02 and then find what ya like.

Great gun get you one if you want it!!! great for varmit hunting - foxes and coyotes often come in 2s and 3s so you would have a quick 2nd or 3rd shot if needed-- shooting ground hog and ground squirrels is a blast also-- If you wnat it get it!!! ><((

I would go to the local shops to handle them and research them to see which one you like the best.  I wouldn't buy one until I monitored gunbroker.com for a while.  Every now and then you can find them all rigged up for a steal.  You will need to find a local gun shop who is willing to handle the exchange for you if you buy off gun broker.  they usually charge a fee for doing it ($25-$35).   @--0--0101  I love AR's!  --09--0

Maybe I shouldn't say this because of the current bunch in D.C. but, I load my own and I have about 7,000 rounds of .223, with another 1,000 more to be loaded.  I don't think I'd hunt deer with a .223 but, they certainly are fun to shoot!

Now I can hunt and go bass fishing anytime I want!  Started deer hunting in 2007 but, had many years as a teen hunting rabbits and squirrels.

Can't help you, since I don't own anything chambered for the .223.  I wouldn't mind having one, although cleaning M-16's was not my idea of fun.

Excellent Predator Rifle. Fast handling, quick response.

Here is some additional info, maybe it will help?

i like the way Stag Arms performs...took out to about 200 yards and it did just fine.  not too shabby on the price either.  Gun Broker is a great place to look for them.  Building them is also another option.  Plenty to look at on Gun Broker.  Good luck and let us know when you come up with.

I have to say that I don't think you can go wrong with a black rifle.  I have three (1 DPMS and 2 Rock Rivers) they all perform very well.  I also have to say that customer service from both companies is top notch.  If you do decide to buy get one chambered in 5.56.  It will still shoot 223 ammo but also any bulk surplus you get your hands on.

I have a bushmaster varminter with the 24" fluted barrel - a model 1 sales lower and other after market parts - 16" collapsible stock laser and light put together by a good buddy of mine and a mini 14.  Love the mini for going out an plinking around with not all that accruate. The bushmaster is a tack driver and the shorty is a great home defense weapon.  If you know someone to build you one they can be cheaper than buying a complete gun.
