I hunt on occasion in Henry and Patrick counties closer to Martinsville.  The VA deer population is exploding but so are the coyotes.

When I was stationed in DC we could bow hunt on Fort Belvoir Army base in VA after taking a hunting safety course and proving that you could shoot a bow at 25 yards.  You had to get three out of five arrows in a paper plate.  They wanted the herd thinned.  But try to hunt any where in the surrounding area and it was nearly impossible. You would trip over deer up there.  People were still talking about dropping deer birth control to manage the herd size.  You saw plenty of car deer collistions driving around.  I kept a hack saw in the truck all the time.  I picked up some neat racks from dead deer.  You can do some great urban hunting in VA.
