This is a deer my son killed a few years ago. It was a 13 point and the 13th point was a 5 inch point that grew our from its eye! This photo does not show it well but it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen on a deer. The taxidermist had a time trying to figgure out how to mount it. The horn came out of the eyelid and prevented the eyelid from closing. The eye was dead and glazed over...

Congrats to Jesse on that nice buck. Got any post taxidermy pictures? Kudo's to you dad for getting him out there!

Here is the actual story on that deer......
This year (2006) we were going to do something different. Each year, my son and I do a little deer hunting. He would rather fish than hunt and I would rather hunt than fish but this year, I had the perfect plan to get us together more. I would buy a video camera and I would video tape his hunting experiences. We would create some lasting memories as well as some outdoor show quality hunting videos. Now, my day job may be working on and with computers but at home, I am pretty low tech. Researching and picking out a video camera took me almost a month but I finally got just the right camera for our outdoor adventures. Before I could even learn how to operate the thing, Jesse had gone hunting with a friend on his land and killed a nice buck. All without me getting one second of it on film! Anyway, this buck has started the makings of a myth here in Butler county so I thought I would take the time to set the record straight. After all, if everyone who has claimed to have seen this deer had actually seen it, the line would have been longer than the line to see James Brown. The deer would have rotted to bones before the last viewer passed by the sacred tailgate to gaze upon this freaky beast.
The buck has a nice 12 point typical rack with a 13th point growing out of his right eye. The eyelid was unable to close because of this horn and the eye had died. I told my son this was probably why he killed it. It was half blind to start with…
So.. To make a short point and a short story.. He killed a freak 13 point buck with a borrowed rifle sitting in a friends shooting house. All of this while I sat at the house trying to figure out how to set the light meter on a stupid video camera…
A special thanks to John and Ray Wallace for taking Jesse hunting before I was ready…
Jesse says he’s waiting on spring now so he can go back to doing something challenging… bass fishing..

That's usually how it works. What kind of camera did you end up buying?
-
A sony with the small tapes. You can tell I know a lot about it. I dont like it actually, i feel it makes too much noise running... Oh well, it will be good for filming the new grandbaby...

nice buck for jesse!!!!

Congrats to Jesse on that nice buck. Got any post taxidermy pictures? Kudo's to you dad for getting him out there!
congrats :) :)

Nice deer. It's weird how antlers can do that. I found a dead 140 inch 10 point after the 06 rifle season. When I skun the hide off to boil the skull there was a little nub growing between his 2 antlers. WEIRD!

about 2 years ago a paper book magazine i get called woods & water had a picture of a big old buck that had a whole 3rd beam growing out where the right eye would be they throught at first it was in a fight and a beam broke off into its head, they found out it just grew that way. tell you son to keep up the good hunting and if he wants to fish for big bass come to FL, we grow small deer but big bass.
-
he may take you up on that one day... ;D
-
That's neat , thanks for posting.
-
That is great. great story , great deer for your son. It must really be awsome to get to spend that kind of quality time in the outdoors with your son.
-
We dont get to near enough now that he is about grown and chasing the dollar and two legged deer...
-
here is some pics of the mount.
-
HE sure made a pretty mount. Whoever did it made a awesome job.
-
That is a beautiful mount. Someone did a really nice job on that one.
-
Ditto on the mount.Nice buck by itself and the 13th point will make good conversation for years to come.

second generation taxidermist. Jones Taxidermy, Fort Deposit, Alabama
-
Where is Fort Deposit? Anywhere somewhat close to Troy?
-
25 miles south west of Montgomery... Maybe an hour from Troy..
-
I only live about an hour from troy, myself...
-
Yea, I saw that on the member map. I will be spending some time up their this year. I have a couple of new small leases outside of Troy. Sort of between Troy, Elba, and Luverne. Maybe we can get together some time. Not exactly sure when yet. I am hoping to be up opening weekend and then sometime in January. If you could pick one week to be there other than opening when would it be? I am trying to firm up some plans and would love to know what your choice would be.
-
I hunt bow season hard (no pressure) and the opening week of gun season. I hunt very little in Dec because the deer seem to dissapear. Then back into in Jan and the last two weeks of jan are the best of the year.
-
Thanks Hm, I will plan on coming later in January as opposed to the beginning.
-
definately... I really did not go a single day in Dec last year. Many people around here dont.
-
I am bringing this mount to the Expo this weekend....

HM, brought the Devil Deer to the Buck Masters Expo last weekend. You should have seen the attention it got. Lots of ooohs and aaahs and a lot of OMG, that's wierd!
-
Bubba, are talking about the reaction to the deer or HM? ;D ;D
-
The deer was on the wall just opposite the Talk Hunting booth, but come to think of it, they were looking the wrong direction.
-
They would have said a lot worse than thats weird if they had gotten a good look at me... ;D
