Title: time to go up to te lease and cleanup after the loggers
Post by: [Blocked] on February 13, 2018, 04:36:00 PM
heading up on sat to see what the loggers left behind, i know that large spaces in our boundary were opened up for the logging trucks. thankfully my partners had some success in filling in the gap near our gate. hopefully we can get our feeders refilled and set up some cameras.  we think they did a every fifty row reduction and some random removal of unwanted trees. at any rate in the long run this will be beneficial  for the deer . so it won't be no picnic this trip.

you are right. it will be good for the deer. in a couple years, you won't even notice it. it's just tough to see right now.

good luck. remember, it's all about the end game, the deer

Best of luck with the clean up. We had a lease several years ago that they cut every 7th row of pines and it was some amazing hunting for about 10 years and then they came back and clear cut everything.

correction we think it was every  fifth row with random trees removed as well. so we are looking ahead to better hunting, and better natural food by opening up the woods. just hope can secure the place before the  bad things happen.

OFG,
I figured that was a typo, every fiftieth row.  The 1st thinning of planted pines allows more sunlight and less growth competition of the remaining trees.  Every 3rd row, every 4th row or every 5th row seems to be a standard for the timber industry.  We always did every 3rd row plus diseased and misshapen trees when we did the 1st cutting.
One thing for sure it creates some wonderful shooting lanes and long lean food plots! --09--0

Best of luck with the clean-up.  I know some of the Georgia huningt club guys on TH went through the same thing a year or two ago.

HOPEFULLY THE LOGGERS WILL BE BACK TO IMPROVE THE ROADS AND CLEAN UP THE TRASH, IT WAS A MESS WE HAD THE CLEAR A PATH TO OUR FEEDER, SO LOT OF WORK TO DO , WISH WE COULD DO A NICE CONTROLLED BURN BUT WE DON'T OWN THE LAND. ALSO LOOKS LIKE CHANCES COMING ON OUR LEASE AGREEMENT THE HOLDER HAS CHANGED.   SO WHAT IS UP WITH THAT , MIGHT KNOW MORE NEXT MONTH.

AT LEAST WE GOT OUR FEEDERS REFILLED ANS SET UP CAMERAS AGAIN. AND TOOK SOME SOIL SAMPLES FOR A NEW FOOD PLOT.  THE GOOD PART OF THE WHOLE DEAL WAS WE HAD NO TRAFFIC TIE UPS ON THE INTERSTATE DURING A HOLIDAY WEEKEND .
