Title: CVA replacement offer
Post by: [Blocked] on April 03, 2017, 08:05:40 PM
I got an email today from CVA:

"
Take Part In Our New Trade-In Program!
Muzzleloader technology has advanced a lot in the last few years.  So much so that if your CVA is more than 8 years old, it's already obsolete - it's essentially an "antique."  And because we don't build these guns anymore, our inventory of replacement parts is getting pretty thin.  This means that if you need an emergency repair right before or during the season, you might be out of luck.  Therefore, for a limited time, we are giving CVA owners an opportunity to trade in their old rifles for a 35% Discount on one of our new, state-of-the-art ACCURA, OPTIMA or WOLF models.  So, if you have a CVA muzzleloader of a year model 2009 or older (identified by a serial number ending in 09 or lower) fill out the form here and we'll arrange for you to return it to us. Once we receive it, we'll give you a 35% off discount code that you can apply to any CVA rifle in our web store.  Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity!"

Hmmm sounds fishy to me need to investigate further. If it is for real it's not a bad deal.

They had recall issues with some older models. Threads for the breech plug not cut deep enough causing them.to blow out among other things. Had I not already disposed of my older one as a result of this  I might have taken tbem up on it.

I got a real old one from the 90's but I also have an accura so I really don't need to trade but my older one shoots on the money it is an Hunter Eclipse or something like that...converted it to 209 primer it worked fine before I got this really cool one @--0--0118

I'm sure to the sales & marketing clowns at CVA they believe it's a fantastic program, but sorry, that message would turn me off (yeah I know, I'm not the average consumer).  You're trying to tell me that a muzzleloader, based on fundamental technology that has been around for hundreds of years, will go obsolete in 8 years?  Gimme a break - if a company isn't willing to stand behind a product like that with prompt parts and service for more than 8 years, they won't get my money.

I have an 06 model that broke last year. something broke in the hammer / trigger area. I purchased a new one and stuck this one in the closet. Might be time for a trade in or repair...

Check with CVA. The older Eclipse Hunter was one of the models recalled.  I never had issues with mine but despite being outside the recall range never felt safe with it after finding out about the issue.

Many years ago, probably around 05 or maybe older, I had a CVA Muzzle loader and sent it back without firing it. It was very flimsy, not well built at all....then I went ahead and purchase a few others out there, Savage ML10 II, Omega, etc, and then I kept hearing and reading about the CVA Accura II and read about it and did some more research. Almost bought a Accura but wait until the Accura II came out. Glad I did, This muzzle loader is a good one, very accurate and would not hesitate to take a shot out to 150 yards maybe out to 175....but will have go out to the range and fire it past 100 yards, currently I not shot it past 100 yards! Do have a dope sheet for it out to 200 yards.

They have certainly beefed this rifle up and made it a very nice rifle. I put a Bushnell DOA Scope on it 3-9X x 40mm, 1" Tube, with the BDC (exactly like Deerhead's). I can tell you today that it is the most accurate Muzzle Loader that I have ever had and need to attend a Bench Rest Match for Muzzle Loaders out at the range to learn a few tips and tricks for shooting a muzzle loading....

I don't like bashing Mfg'ers for past mess ups but I have a real hard spot for CVA...many years ago I purchased one of their side locks (cap)
.50 cal. Hawkin's...shot it maybe 5 times light loads (50gr) to season the barrel... on the fifth shot the front band fell off... took an hour to tap out the wedge to disassemble it, when apart saw that the breach plug had backed out about 1/16 of an inch...factory rep wouldn't even talk to me about it...simply replied it was my fault, I did something wrong, there was no way they were responsible....etc. etc. suck it up and buy a new gun....have never and will never deal with them again...wouldn't even put a free raffle ticket in a bucket to win one...sorry
