Title: Tuesday's work...
Post by: [Blocked] on March 12, 2014, 01:45:28 PM
Well to be honest it ain't work. Took these four rifles out to test some hunting loads. All loads were Nosler BalTip Hunting pills. I think I had a couple of wind gusts near 20 mph. The Sav 11 270 win doesn't seem to like these loads. The Sav 111 243 win little yote pills were blowing around I think. It could never be the trigger puller. The 7mm RM stayed pretty good but the 308 loved this load. All shot off hand. There no bag involved Gut.  --099-780

Dutch - Great shooting in a 20+MPH wind! Wow, you are braver than I am....cold, windy, snow and you went out and shot! My hat, gloves and earmuffs are off to you! You and I must think alike (oh no!) I went out to the range yesterday too...it was 70+ degrees here, low humidity (mid 20%) and windy!(10+), no mirage, high clouds, nice day to shoot...I was getting nervous at 10 mph.

Two of the rifles have 2-12X scopes on them and both were set at 8X. All rifles were 308's at a distance of 100 yards.

I took the new Cooper and still breaking it in, cleaning after each shot. Got to explain this one to you. When I was setting up at the range and already put some targets up and was getting ready to pull out the Cooper, a guy with a custom AR15 shows up and set up on the bench to my left...I knew I was in trouble...I fired the first two round and they almost touched, then on the third shot, just a nanosecond before I squeezed off, this guy lets one flies down range. It sort of startled me so I think I flinched and you can see where the third shot went.

Next came the Kimber. Not a bad group, but the was trying some new loads with it....still using the 155 Gn Berger's. This Kimber likes the 150 gn Sierra GameKing and Nosler BT....

Saved the best for last, the Steyr with a 20" heavy barrel loved the Berger's 155 VLD bullets. That rifle has a Meopta Scoe 1.5-6X set on 5X. First two were almost through the same hole and the last one was a hair under....

Next week going to start my 200 yard shooting...will take my other Coopers and shoot them at that distance...next Thursday will be the range day..
I tried to post these targets this morning before heading off to work but could not get through to post them....

Holy moly, that's what I expect on a bag with no wind, no cold and no rain. Off hand is out of the question for me, even hunting I got to lean on a tree or something just so I don't fall over  --099-780 Good shooting partner.

Gut - Dutch is quiet the shooter! Yes, amazing shooting on a windy day!! I get nervous on winds that are 10+ down here and I did shoot off my home made BoSledge....Cannot wait till it warms up in Dutchland and see what he does when he gets warmed up!

Awesome shooting DH but I'm taking my hat, gloves and earmuffs off to you in this weather!   @--0--0118 My guess the wind was more of a concern when aiming than bullet flight. I think about that a lot when I'm sitting in my tree on those windy days. My .270 Savage didn't like anything I tried except Reloader 22 with mag primers.
