Title: Gutshot's Hunting Journal 2013
Post by: [Blocked] on May 06, 2013, 06:29:04 PM
Well I finally got to hit the turkey woods this past weekend, a week late but I got out. It was a 4am wake up, made some coffee, got my gear in the truck and was on the road at 4:20 and walking in the dark brisk morning air. I arrived at my set up at 5:10, set out the decoys and got cozy, waiting for my world to come to life. As daylight broke, a few crows fired up and a gobbler let me know where he was roosted, a half mile away on the opposite ridge line from me. I waited it out for about 45 minutes, and the next thing I knew I was surrounded by deer, they came into the food plot from three directions. Two of them looked like they were ready to drop any day, I know it's a little early but they were huge. Well after calling for awhile and no activity, I prowled the ridgeline for another hour and a half without a sound from anywhere I headed for the truck and back to camp to hook up the boad and for the trout waters. Fished until 3:30 with huntinharley and Aidan. Aidan caught his first Largemouth in PA, he was excited as a six year old can get. So ended my first outting of the 2013 spring gobbler season. I'll get after them again this weekend.

Very nice time was had by all.

A similar deer encounter happened to one of the gobble blasters here. This guy sets up deeks then lays down like an log and calls. He had a nice group of jakes came down the hill and they just stopped. He heard a few twigs crack behind him and looked to find 5 deer not more than 15 feet from him. I think they had visions of debarking this new found log.  --099-780
