Title: Drying Time
Post by: [Blocked] on May 02, 2013, 10:20:17 AM
I shot a gobbler on April 19th and have had the fan and beard drying under borax and salt since then. (two weeks tomorrrow). How do I know when they are dry enough to mount? What will they feel like or look like. Also, this is my first time doing this. How would I know if I didn't take enough meat off? I heard it will leak a greasy substance later if I didn't clean it well enough. Any advice wold be greatly appreciated!

It will get hard and the smell will go away. Be patient.

When using table salt you should clean the salt off every couple of days and reapply as the salt will soak up the fluids and will harden and you will need to reapply fresh salt. 2 weeks should be long enough for your fan to dry. But as Snort has said sight, smell and touch will tell you everything.
