Title: WNC-Deerhunters Journal
Post by: [Blocked] on October 20, 2011, 04:45:50 PM
I've made it out three times so far for a half day each time. I've found so many acorns at low elevations you'll fall on them. On the other hand if you travel to the higher elevations there's very few acorns. The seasons temperatures have been mainly in the 70's so far.

Good news is that I'm going to make a trip in the mourning and it's suppose to be in the 30's........... Will update after my hunt!

Went out yesterday mourning (10-21-11). Temp was mid 30's with a light breeze - I love those conditions...... Saw several does (I counted 10) at the break of daylight, but they were 300-400 yards out - Just a little to far for a bow  @--0--0105. Around 11:00 am I climbed down and made a trip to another area nearby to check out the area. Found that the DNR had planted miles of roads in the area with clover and winter wheat............. man the deer will love it later, but the hunters won't. There's so much planted, it'll be interesting to see where the deer hit hardest. I took some pics on my cell of the plantings.......... If I had to make a guess, I'd say they planted somewhere around 10 miles of roads in clover. This is a draw hunt area, so it will be hard for the limited number of hunters with limited hunting time to cover these areas, but I'm very happy to see that they did all this work. Did see a yearling leaving the road in one area.

Even though I didn't take a deer, I had a awesome hunt.

Just returned home from checking out some potential hunting land......... Hope we can get things together to do this. Would be a great place for me to take my kids with me hunting and it's a beautiful property. We'll see how it pans out......

We were able to work out a deal for hunting this farm (260 acres). I went out yesterday mourning saw several deer but not enough light to shoot - At about 9:30 a.m. I saw one doe by herself but had to many obstructions between us. She was just under 50 yards, so a good ways out. Temps were in mid 40's with a slight breeze. Beautiful mourning in the woods on our new leased farm. Still got time to get a couple good deer here..............

November 1, 2011 - arrived at our new lease property and grabbed some lunch. Climbed in the stand around 3:30 pm. Temps are in the mid 50's. Just before last light I heard several deer coming in. Had one Doe come in to 10 yards, but no shot. Another came in to just over 20 yards and she offered a shot slight walking away. My arrow entered about 6-7" behind the shoulder on the left and exited through the shoulder on her right side...........

November 2, 2011 - Temps in low 30's - Crystal Clear Skies.   Was in stand about an hour before first light. About 8:30 saw several deer walking up the ridgeline, but they were out about 75-80 yards....... a bit far for my bow. At 11:00 am I climbed down and moved to a different stand. Remainder of the day was uneventful.

November 3, 2011 - Temps in low 30's - Calm winds - Was in tree about an hour before first light. Stand location about 100 yards inside woods from the corner of 30 acre pasture, on old skidder road. Before shooting light, heard several deer walking past my stand headed up the ridgeline........... the remainder of the mourning was spent watching all the overweight squirrels............
