Title: Winter Kill
Post by: [Blocked] on March 21, 2011, 01:14:23 PM
My pond seems fine since I had running water all winter, even under 8" of Ice but my buddies spring fed pond has all dead bass and sunnies popping up all over.

Some good info was posted by the DEC on NY winter kill of pond fish.

See: http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/73114.html

without running water or aeration many a pond or lake freezes out in the winter time.

The pond started to thaw out last week but it was just a tease, it was 10 degrees this morning, about 20 now, and its froze over again.  Winter will never end.

My pond actually got a little ice on it this year...but the Blue Harron never allows any fish to live there...My koi pond is heated so it never freezes.
