Title: Pheasant Hunt Question
Post by: [Blocked] on January 05, 2011, 08:20:08 PM
Does anyone out there know of a great place to go on a pheasant hunt at for a decent price with fair chase birds.  I went on a preserve hunt one time with some friends but it wasn't quite the thrill that I hear from people who hunt wild birds. Don't bash because they were pen raised  ;D , the hunt was for free and it's hard to find a pheasant running wild in Alabama.

I will look into that. The hunt we went on was fun an all but the guy put the birds in a bag and dizzied them up pretty good. We walked right to them and the dog pointed an boom  -0078 dead pheasant.  Watching the dogs work was the best part of the whole deal.  I want to plan a trip for this coming fall if at all possible.

they put our birds out just live and they moved around quite a bit and you had to find them..that was the Maryland Hunt...South Dakota and Kansas I have heard are great pheasant hunting areas @--0--0118

South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, some Kansas, some Iowa, some Minnesota. South Dakota will be where you will find the most concentrations. I have hunted South Dakota a lot and there is plenty of organized hunts where there are a ton of birds - you will get your limit of 3. There is also lots of public lands, however, you have to work harder to get birds. Also, road hunting does prove to be productive if you are not as sporting. I asked 180 about Kansas while there with them duck hunting. They do not have any pheasants in SE Kansas, however, you will find them north and west.

I know that in my part of Virginia there are no wild birds....When I was growing up in Ohio we had a nice population of wild birds on some of the Public land and on the farm.

If you come to Texas, check out Rough Creek Ranch http://www.roughcreek.com/ I went there on a Pheasant/Quail hunt a few years ago and it was Awesome! Top Notch! Hunting was great, guides were great, food was awesome! Beautiful scenery! Huge Bass lake to fish out of while you wait for the next trip. Had a great time! Not cheap, but well woth the money!
