Title: First walleyes
Post by: [Blocked] on April 12, 2010, 07:03:36 AM
Took my 2 boys out fishing Saturday morning.  It was cold! upper 30's in the morning. They were troopers and each ended up catching their first walleyes ever.  We were trolling so they played rock, paper, scissors to see who gets to land the first fish.  Jarod won, Zach was bummed. Jarod started things off with a pretty nice 21"er.  Nice fish to start with. Then the second rod popped and Zach reels in his fish.  Took a while cuz it was a big fish and it wanted to stay down.  He did a great job.  His very first walleye ever stretched the tape to just a touch over 30".  Poor kid hit a home run with his first walleye. Biggest dad has ever caught is 29 1/2".
Now, this is the part that made dad real proud.  I explained to him that those big females are the ones that have all the babies and that it wont taste very good to eat cuz its so old.  I gave him the option to take it home and get it mounted or let it go.  He chose to let it go.  I was good with whatever decision he made but i was sure proud when he said he wanted to let it go so it could go make more baby walleyes.
Jarod also picked up another 25" walleye and a small northern.  Good day to be on the water.  Heck, every day is a good day to be out with the kids!

Great pics!!! Way to go Dad. Looks like you had them pretty well prepared for the cold weather too. That helped tremendously I would say. Great decision by the young man to release that old mom to let her do her thang. I am sure he will be rewarded soon for his actions. Keep up the good work.
