Title: What makes TalkHunting so great?
Post by: [Blocked] on February 04, 2010, 05:52:05 PM
What makes TalkHunting so great? What is it that drew you to this site and kept you here? What makes this place any different than all of the other hunting websites out there?

I also saw a Talk Hunting advertisement in the Whitetail Institute Magazine, and thought I would give it a look.   Signed up but never got back on, several months later I remembered the site, and logged on.  Since that time, I have stayed on as much as possible.  It is a great site with great information, and a bunch of great folks.  I am sort of a loner and I don't go anywhere unless I have to.  But, I felt comfortable enough because of the site to travel 6 hrs.  to the Anniversary Party in Alabama, and be around 30 or so people I have never laid eyes on before.  I had an awesome time meeting other members, and can't wait to meet others.  @--0--0118

Like the post said above me. Friends. Can't say enough about Talk Hunting. If you would have told me a year ago where my travels would have taken me I would have laughed at you. Dreams can be reality if you put your Best into it. I have met some Great People along the way and some have became Great Friends. I Know we have our members that are slow to open up and live the Full Extent of What Talk Hunting is all about. It is a place people interact everyday and learn about each others hunting and about their everyday ups and down. Not a stone unturned here. You don't have that on other sites. I was asked a long time ago to do a job for Talk Hunting from a man I had Never Met in person and I accepted it with open arms because I Believe in the Members of this site. Members make a site and you all have done GREAT. I am Proud to Be a Part of this site. That being said I will get off of my soap box because you know I could Ramble on this subject forever.

westernKYhunter,Hope you are up to another interesting year, because who knows where our travels will take us this year. I have traveled a lot of miles this year with my co pilot. It's Amazing how a Deer Contest that causes so many questions and disagreements can produce a friendship that will last a lifetime.Sometimes you have to look in between the lines and look at the Total Picture. I am Glad I found Talk Hunting and Proud to be a part of Talk Hunting. I Hope to See You All down the road somewhere.

I also saw the link on the Whitetail Institute of America website.  I used to be a member of another site but never got involved because of the "drama".  I like this site.  At the time there were not very many members.  Just a couple hundred or so, Maybe.  I've had some good conversations, learned some things, been able to teach some things, I attended gatherings and functions, met some great people.  One thing that makes this site stand above the others, to me, is that the leadership believe in a great vision for this site.  It's not a money making venture.  All the work is volunteer for now.  These people put in hours because they care about hunters.  They care about us.  I too believe in this site, this club, and a greater vision.  I for-see a long future for us and TH.  I hope to be able to help the vision along.

I got an email from Ray Scott and WTI a good while back.  I checked it out and well, as others have said--the rest is history.  I had checked out other sites, most were not interested if i thought anything because, well, i am a woman.  The ladies hunting sites i looked at seemed to want to dish the men in their lives.  Here I am just family, a fellow hunter who likes the outdoors.  No One cares that I did not kill a record buck, prize turkey or anything else.  We all enjoy the outdoors for everything it has to offer.

I was surfing the net looking for some information on hunting and came across TH. I got to talking with WesternKyHunter back in Sep of 2008 about hog hunting which I had never done before and he invited to his property in Jan of 2009 to hunt some of the hogs there, I went and met a gang of TH members to include WV, Radar, WesternKYhunter and several others, the rest is history, I talked with many others after that and started writing for the Camp Fire News, then joined a host of TH members at the Northern Anniversary Party in Holly MI made more friends who all like the great outdoors and having fun. Last month I was asked to help out on the site as a moderator, and how could I say no. This is by far the friendliest family oriented site I have ever experienced, so I figured I would do my part to help keep it that way. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  ##$%#115 HM for your vision and dedication.

I was a member on another board and I still am. I just happen to find this site by a search. Started to hang around and read some post. I liked what I saw and then joined. What kept me here is all the friendliness of the members, no back stabbing if you know what I mean. Then I got to posting and got to know some members. It was amazing to find so many Christian hunters on one site. I read some post about members going to hog hunts and deer hunts, and all the fun they had. I made the Eastern Anniversary Party and had a blast. I got to meet HM, PJ BD, BP, Zos and Hunting Grandma, Mac, Hyper and camogirl. My wife could not believe that I wanted to meet people I have never met before. We had a blast and a good time. Now this year we are heading to Kentucky for the May get together to meet more members. HM and all the mods do a great job plus where else can you win prizes on a monthly basis with our great sponsors. We have the best membership of any board, everyone supports one another, and are willing to lend a hand to a member even though they have never met. So God Bless this site and all it's member's....

Saw an ad in WTI and checked out the site.  I love this site because the posts are from hunters just like me - not pro hunters trying to sell you something - just regular hunters exchanging ideas and fun.  And everyone I have met is down to earth - I do not feel out of place here.

I too was brought in by a WTI e-mail.  Right from the beginning, I knew this sight was better than others.  Yes the people are great, we have generous sponsors, and I have learned alot.  BUT, the number one thing that makes this site so great for me is...

the fact that you can feel free to ask anything or offer an opinion and not get ridiculed.  Some topics covered have two or more obvious sides, with no real arguing or belittling.  The wealth of knowledge we have on this site is unmatched, but no one person feels they are the only one who is right.

Thanks for the great site!

I found Talkhunting by web surfing and what keeps me here is all the friendly like minded people that I have met. Everyone is always helpful and the stories you read about from different parts of the country are awesome. The site is packed with helpful information to better yourself not only as a hunter but as a person.  ##$%#115 TH!!!!

The diverse membership is a big plus!  Main reason would be the opportunity to exchange ideas and tactics to take game animals any legal means available.  Almost any topic on here can be discussed and some excellent advice can be gleamed from it.  A vast amount of knowledge and experience on any topic involving hunting can be found on this site.  I would bet the years of experience of all the members would be amazing , as many of us have been hunting squirrels or other small game before we were 10 years old.   ##$%#11

I was introduced to TH though a WTI magazine ad. This has been one of the greatest things that has happened to me computer-wise.

This is a professional, non-vulgar or off-color banter forum with so much wisdom to tap into.

I have a circle of sportsman friends and always ask them if they have checked out TH yet.

One buddy asks me regularly what the TH guys are saying.

I always have something to report!!!

and oh by the way................thanks to whoever for the new EMOTIONcons!!!!!!!!!!!!! --9-908

I was introduced to this site by the WTI magzine and join in September 2008. I was pleasant pleased at the quality of people on this site. No bashing fellowmember and just a wealth of hunting knowledge from all across America. It's is an absolute pleasure to be a part of such an outstanding group of folks that make you feel a true part of a great family. The moderators are great and always willing to help. There are some many members that I truly would love to meet and if at all possible I want to make the southern anniversary part in Mississippi this year. This vision of this site will continue to allow us to grow, we have some outstanding sponsor and HM and the pro staff are working hard around the clock to continue to enhance this site. Some of the post on hear have made me laugh out loud until I've had tears in my eye.
Someday hope to meet WV,HM,PJ,Gutshot,WKyhunter, bcotton, Bubba Brown,Cowmanhunter,Snortweeze,Radar,BOGO,Bugfixer, and the list goes on an on. Attiture is everthing and I love so much positive and caring comments from our family. This site has grown leeps and bound and I see great things for TH in the future and I'm proud to be a part of such and outstanding group of such awesome folks. I truly want to stay involved and help make this the best hunting site possible. If I can help in anyway I'm ready for the challenge. What an amazing site and I'm so thankful I found it......God bless to all in your presute for that trophy. If i can only figure out how to post picture it would make my day.

It's the supportive and positive attitudes of all the members.  You start off being welcomed and encouraged to post away.  This is the first and only site like this I've ever been on and I can't see any reason to discontinue  the funn I'm having on here.  Thank you all!

I was actually searching for various hunting items and one of those searches I found a link here. It's been a great place to get information, not only by sponsors but from people who have actually tried and used the different techniques or items! Nothing beats having other Experienced hunters to get advice from! Thanks to all for the opportunity!

Talk Hunting is great, because of us. We all found our way here, because we were looking for what the site turned out to be. The rules were right to get the site started, many of us that got here early have made the site a nice, civilized home away from home. Almost like a fraternity, like personalities, like morals, like sense of humors and just down right good people. We all love to hunt and we value friendships.

My long time friend Capt Trae was talking about this talk huntin place, so I typed it up and decided to join.  I seen quick that everyone is very helpful and really friendly.  This is a great place to learn, share your experience or just past the time reading memories.  I really like the fact that this is a site that I can let my son read post and not have to worry what is being said.  And of course it helps these long nights go by a little faster.  Thanks to the ones who keep this site fun and clean!!!

I had tried to do somthing like this on facebook with my buddies (much smaller scale obviously) where we could talk about what everyone was seeing in the woods and compare notes (when, where, conditions).  I had no idea that this place existed.  Here I talk about deer hunting with people from around the country who are all at different phases of the season.  Its not just limited to deer hunting either, all the categories for other animals to hunt to fishing and cooking.  I enjoy the trophy photos and stories and also the amateur photography.  Its also great to have devotions on here.  This place has so much to engage in.  I really appreciate all this site has to offer, its just a great way to connect with other people who think and live like me.

I saw Imperial Clover in "The Deer Hunters Bible", which I then googled. From there I found the forum and the rest is history! :)

The first thing I notice was the lack of pretentiousness, ego and drama. Other places I've been at start becoming a contest on who shoots what, how good they are, why your way isn't as good as theirs, ect... Not so here. A welcome change!

Also, folks here are very positive. Even if someone gives advice that might not work well for a poster, people don't come along and call that person an idiot for suggesting it. They just say something like "You might find this will work well for you situation..." or "That can work, but I have found that x is...."

Posters are always willing to work with a newbie in a positive way. They don't make a new hunter feel like a moron for not knowing something.

The overall atmosphere is pleasant and positive.  ##$%#115

I was on several other sites and on one all they did was badmouth everyone that didn't agree with them. I got tired of it and not sure how I found this site but everyone is helpful and friendly and there isn't the drama there is on other sites. Everyone is supportive here and I really enjoy spending time here. I don't have a lot of friends that hunt so the people here I consider friends, just friends that haven't met yet. It's a great site thanks to all of you!!!

I cannot remember how I came across TH. I'm just so thankful I did. The TH family is so generous and warm. Family is so important that the art of hunting is shared and enjoyed by all. I know I get a little carried away with my backwoods sermons, and yet the TH family forgives, embraces and allows expression of personal beliefs and convictions. Sharing of experiences in a positive fashion is the best way to propagate our beloved sport. TH is by far the best way to communicate your passion and spread the love of all outdoor endeavors.

Thanks does not seem adequate payment for the moderators and administrators but it will have to be enough. The only pay is the positive feedback they receive and so richly deserve. So once again THANK YOU for your commitment to keep this forum so vibrant and fulfilling.

Our mods and admins rock, Thank You one and all.

I honestly can't remember how I found the TH site but, once I did, I was hooked!  My wife says I spend more time with you all than I do her.
Anyway....there are many reasons I like it so much here.  The friendliness of everyone here....the tips and advice shared by all here....great sponsors with good prices.......I could go on and on.  So, unless I'm ever found unworthy to be here, I'm here for the long haul.

Hello all,

I know that there is a thread going around about “What do you love about Talkhunting” but let tell you my story in a more personal way.

On April 04, 2010, at 03:21:12 AM, my life changed! AGAIN! I was browsing hunting websites looking for general information and tips on how to be a better hunter. I forget just exactly how I came across this website but I do know why I looked, it was the words “ Family Friendly”. When I registered for Talkhunting.com, I had no idea the journey I was about to take or the people that would be coming in to my life.

As those of you know, once you make your first post on here, you are hooked. I then began making friends and building relationships. I can remember seeing posts about how a fellow TH member had met up with other TH members and thinking “I want to do that”. It seemed that the more I found out about TH members, the more I wanted to meet them! This was NEVER my intention when joining the sight but soon became a goal of mine!

As time went on, I was then given the opportunity to become a staff writer for TH. Here again, this was never even a thought when joining the sight! I jumped at the opportunity and still feel the excitement of seeing something I wrote on the “World Wide Web”. I thank each of you for the encouragement and support of writing those articles.

Then I found out about the “Summer Blast and B4K.” OH MY GOD! Yes, this is it! My chance to meet many TH members and staff at one place! And then I thought “oh, it’s in Kentucky, how am I going to get the family to agree with this?” As time went on, I was able to convince the family that it would be a fun vacation for all of us and that we would be supporting B4K.

B4K holds a special place in our hearts as we have a special needs child. For those that don’t know, I have 2 daughters, one that is now 18, Macy, and one that turns 13 tomorrow, Katelyn. When Katelyn was born, there were complications. At first they seemed minor and no big issue. Then came the news that she would have to be transported to another hospital for emergency care. Me and my wife (Melody) were in shock. The next 52 days we spent every morning and evening by her side in ICU. Every day it was unsure of what the out come would be. Every day we told the Lord that this was in his hands and prayed for her to come home with us.

The days that we spent in ICU, seeing the babies that come in there and the issues that these Dr’s and Nurses face every day will take you to a place that not everyone should go. We’ve all seen the old commercials where a Dr is holding a small baby in the palm of his hand, but until you have seen a baby in person that weighs less than half a pound, you can not understand the feeling that you will get. I saw babies come in and then go home with their family, I also witnessed the times when the family had to be informed that their Daughter/Son did not make it.

We later learned that one of the only reasons Katelyn made it was that she was born full term and a healthy weight. Katelyn had over come life’s obstacles including going into full arrest and suffering a bleed to the brain. This is the reason for her being weak on her right side. In more simple terms, she had a heart attack and a stroke (3 times). It was a week later that Melody got to hold Katelyn for the first time. You can only image what that was like. The day when we found out that Katelyn would be coming home was one of many thanks and over whelming joy. And so the journey began, and here we are now, as I said before, she will be 13 tomorrow. To be at this point when not too long ago it was unsure if she would leave the hospital with us, is truly a blessing.

Ok, I was not trying to take you on a sad journey with that story, but I feel that it would help some of you to better understand why I am posting this. So, on with the story.

It was then settled, we were going to Kentucky for vacation! I was going out of my mind with excitement to say the least. In short, we arrived at the Summer Blast and was truly overwhelmed with what we experienced. Melody later confessed to me that she could not believe that I was dragging her to Kentucky on “Our” vacation, to talk to some “guys” about hunting! She also agreed that it was one of the best things we ever did!

So, the first Summer Blast came and went. Met some awesome people and made some great friends. Throughout the next year, I had the privilege of meeting other TH members and supporting TH. I also have had the privilege in helping B4K in spreading the word of the organization.

It is hard to imagine, but the Summer Blast this year was even more overwhelming than last year! Not only did I meet more great people, I became even closer to the ones I thought I already knew. I even had some trials of my own but was able to overcome them with the help of good friends. (That one sentence could be drawn out into a book, but you know who you are and what you did, THANK YOU). And then, same as last year, that feeling of doing a greater good came over me and my family and were very thankful for being part of such an awesome group of people. We all have friends, and we all have people we think are our friends, but when a person that you hope to gain the trust of one day tells you, without provocation, that he considers you a “close personal friend” and you know he meant it, it gives you a feeling of accomplishment, and that is how I felt when I left Kentucky yesterday.

Some people will never have that feeling of accomplishment in their lives, I have been fortunate enough to have felt it several times. Many of those times could not have been done without TH.

Thank you TH.

Anthony

ameshell - Anthony,
You have stated it so well.  I had attended two other Summer events without my wife.  When it was time to go to my first KY Summerblast I started working on the wife to go with me.  She finally agreed, the same as you wife, what fun could she have with a bunch of hunters.  She had been around hunters and fishermen all her life as her father was one.  Well when she got to Summerblast 2011 and met the other folks and learned how to play conhole, it was on.  She had me make reservations for SummerBlast 2012 right after we got home from SummerBlast 2011.  She wanted a cabin on the lake and that is what she got this year.  She bid more at the B4K auction than I did this year!!!

TalkHunting is a Family!!!

stumbled across TH while just surfing the net, the more I came here, the more I loved it, the people are the best, the morals, (not like other sites where people feel they have to use bad language and drama to post anything).  TH feels like a big family, everyone is nice and the advice is top notch.

I heard Talkhunting advertised on some old UpNorthJournal podcasts.  What has kept me here is the great people, and the cleanliness of the forums.  No bashing, no cursing, no flaming.  I can sit with my children and read the forums.  People are friendly and supportive here, not looking for a reason to attack you.  I'd say it's like family, but I'm the last of eight and a family get together doesn't seem to be able to occur without fighting.  It's more like a group of close friends.  You can speak your mind, you might get teased, but you will be accepted.

TH is just a bunch of humble & humorous folks who share a common love for the freedom we enjoy being outdoors.  I come here often these days - it only takes a few minutes to brighten my day.

This site is very encouraging to a new member or hunter.. There is not a bunch of good ole boys running, and bullying members as some sites I have been on.. Incredible people, great advise, stories, and the broad spectrum of topics is great..
Hearing what hunters are doing across the country, their styles and approach is very educational.. Learned a lot of tid bits here.. good friendly site for sure. I have enjoyed being part of the TH family
